We visited this newly discovered restaurant only once, on one of the hottest days of summer, so we chose to sit outside. However, we plan to return in winter to enjoy the cozy indoor area with a fireplace and charming decor, as we really liked this restaurant. On a day when we wanted to enjoy spicy, flavorful Mexican food, we found Caldera online without any personal recommendations. It doesn’t have much seating or any view; it’s located on a side street under an apartment building. However, the concept keeps customer numbers in check, and though there were full tables, we were able to find a seat. Paid parking is available nearby, and it’s a 5-minute walk to Yeşilköy coast.
As the name suggests, Caldera Mexican offers a Mexican-inspired menu. The selection isn’t vast, but it includes classic dishes like nachos and tacos in different versions (chicken, beef, classic). They are served with jalapeños, sour cream, and guacamole. There are also various salads. Main dishes include soy-marinated chicken/beef and Mexican steak. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available, along with several versions of margaritas, a famous Mexican cocktail. Portions are quite filling.
While we haven’t been to Mexico and tried these dishes in their original form, we have experienced a more luxurious and larger Mexican restaurant in Germany. When comparing that to the relatively modest Caldera, we actually preferred Caldera’s flavors, which suited our taste more. So if you’re evaluating the food solely for taste rather than its authenticity to traditional Mexican recipes, you’ll likely find everything delicious.
As frequent diners at different restaurants, we can say that, for 2024, prices are quite reasonable for both food and drinks at this Bakırköy, Istanbul restaurant.
